Illustration Friday - Old-fashioned

The coffee grinder was always part of my childhood; it hung on the kitchen wall at my parent's house and it was my job to stand on the steps and grind the fresh coffee.   When they got a new kitchen after 45 years and the grinder was no longer wanted, I had to have it; just for the nostalgia as I don't drink coffee!

This is my very first (and rather shy) submission to Illustration Friday.  I am an un-confident and sporadic artist; and I veer from using lots of colour (acrylic) to not wanting to use any at all...  I also have trouble deciding what to draw or paint so I'm hoping that participating in Illustration Friday will give me the inspiration to pick up my sketching pencils once a week!

  1. You must be right-handed. You drew the grinder from memory, and that is real.

  2. Hi JJ

Yes I am right handed - it's very obvious isn't it! I have real trouble getting things symmetrical.

It wasn't done from memory, I have the grinder here now so had it in front of me to sketch.

  4. JJ, just realised did you mean I'm right handed because of the direction of the handle...? well that as well ;-)

  5. I love it!!! You should definitely continue :-)

I know exactly what you mean about being nervous sharing artwork...I've only been drawing for about three years, painting for just over one, and I get rediculously nervous about sharing the photos of my work. Tell you what, I'll keep doing it if you do :-)

  6. Ps. I'll try and make time to have a go at the Illustration Friday too (although at the moment I'm not promising anything!)

  7. I'm comforted by the fact that most of the other 'entries' seem to be from professional artists / illustrators, so of course they are going to be so much more fantastic ;-)

    OK that's a deal!!

  8. Big welcome to IF. Lovely coffee grinder, well done for holding onto it.great drawing, I instantly recognized the blue and white windmill royal delft.
I haven't even started my IF, I better get on with it.

  9. Thanks Janie! I confess I omitted the patterns that were around the outside of the central windmill image because I lack patience and thought I'd mess them up...

Looking forward to seeing your old fashioned IF :-)
