An apology...

...to Carmi (Thematic Photographic) and Illustration Friday, and the other arty weekly things that I used to find time to take part in... I haven't for a while.   And it's not that I couldn't find the time, it's just that I've got out of the habit of waiting with baited breath to see what this week's subject is going to be... sadly this is what happened now I'm back in the office full time.  And my arty mojo seems to have gone A.W.O.L. now my head is full of science and psychology and stuff like that.

If I can do it occasionally if not every week, I hope that you won't hold that against me.

IF: Surrender

When Mimosa got lost
In the Big Dark Woods
Where the scary beasties live,
She was glad her mother always told her
To carry a handkerchief,
So that she could wave it in surrender.

Blind contour drawing Wk 3

This is my first attempt at Blind Contour art, that is drawing something without looking at your pencil/page/hands and just at the thing you are drawing.

A bunch of bananas

IF: Chicken

"It's not just any chicken feather,"
snapped Eloise as the snooty wearers of
glamorous Ascot hats
gave her sidelong glances.
"It's from a Black Sumatra Longtail."

IF: Resolutions

Chester's New Year's Resolutions
were to smile a lot
and play frisbee.
Every day.

IF: Winter

During the Winter
Henrietta cheered herself up by
Sitting in her deckchair,
Reading 'Holiday 2011'

IF: Mail

After reading the letter
She got in the mail,
Mimosa couldn't help
Slipping into some lovely
Daydreams...

Horace isn't happy

Horace doesn't like being stared at.
He wishes he'd been born a zebra,
So that he could blend into the background.

IF: Afterwards

The harvest is over; afterwards these trunks will go to the sawmill, and  my husband will plant new trees.

IF: Spent

... but Sylvia had spent all the housekeeping on new clothes.

IF: Racing

"The crowd groaned as Brian, favourite at 2-1, came in 3rd behind Gladys and Sandra in the mixed racing, while Terry trailed a poor 4th."

IF: Spooky

Hmm, the theme for Illustration Friday this week is Spooky... so I figured everyone will be doing illustrations of Hallowe'en and haunted houses, or maybe spooky pumpkins.

I thought I'd have a play around and just see what happened (and also used it as an ArtRage learning process!).

When you're strolling on the beach in the late afternoon, you'd expect one shadow... but three?   That seems pretty spooky to me....

IF: Transportation

Illustration Friday's theme this week is 'Transportation'.

While I dropping off to sleep last night I had a vision of being transported away from everything on a magic carpet, up and away from all the things I worry about late at night; everything seems less scary when you are flying high above it...

IF: Beneath

This week's Illustration Friday theme is 'Beneath'.

With Scotland on my mind, this is what I came up with; and I hope those non-Brits are familiar with the eternal question of what a Scotsman wears beneath his kilt... ;-)

Illustration Friday - Old-fashioned

The coffee grinder was always part of my childhood; it hung on the kitchen wall at my parent's house and it was my job to stand on the steps and grind the fresh coffee.   When they got a new kitchen after 45 years and the grinder was no longer wanted, I had to have it; just for the nostalgia as I don't drink coffee!

This is my very first (and rather shy) submission to Illustration Friday.  I am an un-confident and sporadic artist; and I veer from using lots of colour (acrylic) to not wanting to use any at all...  I also have trouble deciding what to draw or paint so I'm hoping that participating in Illustration Friday will give me the inspiration to pick up my sketching pencils once a week!
