New pages

Well, today is disgusting and wet so I'm quite glad I'm not going to the office again until Thursday!  I can huddle here and work with mugs of hot chocolate and cosy slippers instead...

I realised that many of you probably get completely confused about what I'm talking about, so I've added a new page about my boys.

Another new page is that my sitting room is now back to normal ie. the sofa-bed is a sofa again and the room feels huge now!   It will be nice not to have to sit on the bed when I have guests ;-)

Right, on with those e-mails!

Spot's Spot: Winter

Well I had a short day out today because Dad came home late morning because he wasn't well.

I was pretty relieved, look what I'm expected to go out in!   Thankfully Dad has started leaving me to sleep in his van for some of the day now.

Snow on the tops in Galloway Forest Park

February 1988

We were loading,
Or was it unloading,
Stuff from the back of the car
When

I said "Yes"

It had taken me five months;
I needed to be sure.
The fact that he waited patiently
Made me all the more certain.

But...

Before we had the right moment
To mention it to my parents
My elder sister and her boyfriend arrived.

Her boyfriend went up to our parents' room
At midnight,
To ask for her hand in marriage.

We couldn't believe it,
There was no way we could say anything,

Not now.

Mixed feelings

I found out last week that the police have received the medical/post-mortem results for the other driver; these have now gone to the Crash Investigation Officer, and the full report will be sent to the Coroner by the end of November.

It's a relief to know that the legal train is on the move, combined with the nervousness of knowing that it won't be long before I have a hearing date burning its way into the page of my diary.

Just because

On the subject of books, I just came across this little sketch I did back in August; books and other bits and pieces piled on top of my art trunk (which contains canvases and lots of things I thought at some point might 'come in useful').  Thought you might like it.

I have officially moved upstairs now, and after my friend comes over to help me with the sofa-bed tomorrow evening, I will be able to transfer Base Camp back into to a sitting room again.   That feels like a huge step.   However in the meantime I'm struggling to find homes for all those little things I gathered and kept around me during the last 4 months of sleeping in here - some of them might end up in a 'miscellaneous' box until I get sorted out.

My neighbour from across the road came across earlier and I saw her coming, so opened the door to catch her, she was just dropping off a leaflet to say they are having a fireworks party this evening, advance warning for those with pets; they are very considerate like that. Of course we chatted a bit about how I'm getting on, and she invited me over for a drink to see the show, so who knows I might just go!

I hope you've all had a good weekend, I'm back to my books for another hour or so to study neurons and hormone and chromosomes...  it's a good chapter because there are lots of pictures, which reduces the number of words ;-)

IF: Afterwards

The harvest is over; afterwards these trunks will go to the sawmill, and  my husband will plant new trees.

TP 122: Electric

May I present my late grandmother's Sunbeam electric hand mixer; a little piece of history, I guess dating from the post-war era.

And yes, it still works!

Double rings

I coloured my hair this morning so took my rings off and put them down on the little mirror in the bathroom.. the way they were doubled up in the mirror made me think of Mr H and how part of him is here, and part of me is there, somehow.  Does that sound really soft?     The silver one belongs to him, it has Scottish thistles on it, and I am wearing it while he is away.
